Publisher: Harpercollins UK, Avon

Publication Date: 11 February 2016

Will Curtis’s six-year-old daughter, Ella, knows her father will never leave her. After all, he promised her so when her mother died. And he’s going to do everything he can to keep his word.

What Will doesn’t know is that the promise he made to his little girl might be harder to keep than he imagined. When he’s faced with an impossible decision, Will finds that the most obvious choice might not be the right one.

But the future is full of unexpected surprises. And father and daughter are about to embark on an unforgettable journey together . . .”

Firstly I’d like to thank the publisher for approving my NetGalley request for this eBook. I had already taken part in the cover reveal and couldn’t wait to find out more about the book everyone was talking about!

The very first line pulled me in and raised all sorts of questions which, thankfully, were answered as I continued to read.

In a strange way the storyline felt so far from reality but at the same time so so real. Not being around to help your children grow up – isn’t that every parents biggest fear? I know it’s mine.

There were some humorous moments which I hadn’t expected at all, nothing over the top, just little things like not saying the ‘G-word’ and trying to recreate a movie moment. I liked these because they lightened the mood a little.

I can’t write this review without mentioning the tears because there were plenty of them. It was impossible not to put myself in Will’s shoes and that meant I felt everything. Every frustration, every loss, every heartache – pretty much every emotion you can think of when you’ve lost the most precious people in your life. There were even tears of happiness during some of the most touching parts of the storyline!

This was a heartpoundingly beautiful read. It left me looking at life and death from a completely different perspective.

“What happens when you’re stalked by Death? You fall in love with him, of course.

Pagan Moore doesn’t cheat Death, but instead, falls in love with him.

Seventeen year old Pagan Moore has seen souls her entire life. Once she realized the strangers she often saw walking through walls were not visible to anyone else, she started ignoring them. If she didn’t let them know she could see them, then they left her alone. Until she stepped out of her car the first day of school and saw an incredibly sexy guy lounging on a picnic table, watching her with an amused smirk on his face. Problem is, she knows he’s dead.

Not only does he not go away when she ignores him, but he does something none of the others have ever done. He speaks. Pagan is fascinated by the soul. What she doesn’t realize is that her appointed time to die is drawing near and the wickedly beautiful soul she is falling in love with is not a soul at all.

He is Death and he’s about to break all the rules.”

This was a book that I had heard good things about and wanted to check it out for myself so I bought it during my birthday money spending spree.

It jumped straight into the action and Pagan’s first meeting with Dank/Death.  She didn’t know who he was at that point, she just thought he was a soul who could somehow talk to her.  I pretty much fell for Dank from the first time he spoke, he was a fantastic character who said all the right things. Pagan’s soul seeing was a fascinating part of the storyline but it was also the part that created the eerie atmosphere and gave me goosebumps.

Leif intrigued me, I couldn’t quite figure out where he fit in to begin with, but it soon became clear when Pagan’s involvement with him led her to trouble.  When a new guy, who happened to be a rock star, arrived at the school Pagan was thrown into confusion and I loved this twist in the storyline, I just couldn’t wait to find out where it would lead.

I can’t write this review without mentioning the sizzling chemistry between Pagan and Dank, having read another book by this author I can tell you that this is something she does well – she creates amazing tension between her characters which just seems to reach out and envelop me as I’m reading.

Pagan’s world got even crazier on a skiing trip; the things she saw and came to realise affected her deeply, she didn’t know how to process the information.  I shut the book with an ‘oh my god’ because I just hadn’t seen the fantastically teasing and intriguing last sentence coming! I can’t wait to see what happens in book two, Predestined.

This was a highly addictive read – eerie with a touch of romance and sizzle.

Ceri’s Journey: Angels – Linn B. Halton – Guest Post

I’m delighted to welcome Linn B. Halton to Me, My Books and I today to talk about her latest book:

Ceris journey Angels

Introducing Ceri’s journey: Angels – a psychic romance

Release party on Loveahappyending Lifestyle emag July 6th, 2013

How does a writer get an idea to start a new work in progress? Well, it can come from an idea that has been in the back of your mind for a long time, or something simple that happens and your mind runs off at a tangent. Sometimes it’s one simple thought that crosses your mind. Today I’m talking about my latest book, this is a three-part series (each book is a novella of around 30,000 words in length – Angels, Truth and Decisions) and it follows Ceri’s journey – her love story with the sensitive and loving Alex.

Ceri s journey series

The question it throws up, is what if you fall in love with someone you’re not destined to fall in love with? What if fate has mapped out a different life for you both and your paths are meant to cross for a reason, and then move on? Is it possible to change what is fated, or maybe there is a mechanism for correcting the course when something goes off the path of destiny? Is that why some people fall in love more than once and why relationships fall apart? Or maybe it’s possible to have more than one soul-mate. It’s just a thought…and that one question sparked a three-part series!

All I want

But let’s start the very beginning… with Ceri’s journey: Angels, the release party will be featured on Loveahappyending Lifestyle emag on July 6th, 2013. Pop over to http://loveahappyending.com on that day for details of how to win an angel all of your very own!

“Ceri thinks she sees angels…everywhere. She struggles to keep separate what feels like two very different sides to her life. As a manager in an advertising company she’s been working with the gorgeous Alex for two years. They have a friendship based upon the image she portrays whilst she’s at work and it helps to keep her sane. One mad, crazy night spent sharing their secrets, and a lot of wine, result in them ending up in bed together. When Alex explains that the reason he doesn’t date is because someone broke his heart, how can Ceri admit that she feels a deep connection to him?

Ceri’s purpose here on this plane is to correct a series of incidents that alter the course of many of the people’s lives with whom she comes into contact. She’s simply putting right little errors that could ripple outwards and change the course of their destiny. But how can she prove that she really has made a difference? Is it all in her head?

She’s alone for a reason; she’s not meant to fall in love in her earthly life. Alex is supposed to cross paths with her and help Ceri during a phase where she begins to question the signs she’s being given. It’s meant to be a turning point for them both—but in opposite directions. They are destined to travel very different paths…but Ceri doesn’t know that and neither does Alex…”

This is a romance story that explores the possibility of there being something more than just the ‘here and now’. If that were the case, how would it work? What keeps us on the path determined for us, when we have free will? How would the spirit world link with us as we go about our lives? Love is a powerful emotion, but can it change the course of someone’s destiny? Ceri’s journey has begun.

Never Alone – Linn B Halton – Blog Tour Including Giveaway

Today I’m excited to be taking part in the blog tour for Never Alone by Linn B Halton. Thank you to Sharon from Fiction Addiction Book Tours for sending me the ARC.

“Life is all about the choices we make…

Holly is the envy of all her friends; she has lived with the gorgeous Will for five years. She supported him whilst his IT company grew and a life split between homes in the UK and Los Angeles beckons, offering them a glamorous and exciting lifestyle.

A series of terrifying encounters unleashes an inherited psychic sensitivity within Holly and she begins to wonder whether the path she’s on is the one she’s destined to take. The thought of hurting the people she loves the most causes her to bury her emotions, until fate takes a hand. Suddenly her perfect life begins to unravel…”

I’ve read a couple of other books by this author (reviews here) so I was looking forward to seeing where her latest book would take me.

It began with an introduction into Holly’s life and because it was told by Holly herself it felt incredibly personal, almost like I was listening to an old friend. This also made me like her straight away (even when she announced that she could eat whatever she wanted and still stay thin – so not the case in my world but I can dream), she was mostly a very positive character and while I was reading I found myself feeling positive alongside her.

Holly was an estate agent and her psychic abilities were soon revealed when she had an adverse reaction to a house that was going on the market, I actually got chills at this point and there were many more moments throughout the book when I broke out in goosebumps. Having had a few unexplained experiences myself I felt closer to the story and I think this made it seem more real for me. I’ll admit that I was a bit scared on a couple of occasions at the beginning and I know I’ll be nervous looking in my rear-view mirror after reading this!

I found it very interesting to see how Holly’s psychic episodes affected her day-to-day life, the author had written it beautifully so that I felt like I was a part of each incident too. I was absolutely fascinated by all the little things that was happening to Holly and I couldn’t stop turning the pages to see what the outcome would be. The introduction of Nick and, later on, Peter took the storyline to an interesting new level and I felt that this was when Holly really came into her own.

One of my favourite parts of the book was the clairvoyance evening – I found it so moving and literally had tears pouring down my face by the end of it. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, along came the ending and completely blew me away! It confused me at first but when I realised what was going on I couldn’t stop smiling, in my opinion there couldn’t have been a better outcome. I will definitely be rereading this so that I can look at everything from a different viewpoint.

This was a fantastic read – it was spiritual, thought-provoking and I ended up reading it in just one day because I couldn’t put it down.
