What will happen if he’s not standing between the prince and danger?

*A Faerie Wedding is a companion novella–intended to be read after the other books in the series. It is a New Adult novella and features adult language and situations.

It had been a while since I had visited this magical world so I was little concerned that I’d struggle to fall into the storyline. I needn’t have worried because in no time at all I was wrapped up in what was going on in front of me.

Something that has always stuck in my mind about this series is how likeable the characters were and this book was no different. I wanted the best for all of them so when an unexpected twist came along I felt confused but intrigued to find out where it would lead.

For me, this wasn’t just a story about a wedding (as I had first thought it would be after reading the title) but also about self-discovery and finding your place in the world.

The author has a magical style of writing that makes the impossible seem possible and brings all sorts of weird and wonderful creatures to life!

This was a quick and enjoyable read. A fabulous addition to The Star Child series.

My Review

Firstly I’d like to thank the author for sending me this eBook to read and give an honest review.  I’m a big fan of this series and you can read my previous reviews here.

This final book picked up where book two, The Fallen Stars, left off.  Cali had been taken and Kellen was desperate to find her.  In no time at all I was pulled back into the magical storyline, once again filled with danger and romance.

Even after two books the characters were still developing right before my eyes as they learned more and more about themselves and their families.  For me the characters were all likeable, especially the strong supporting characters and even the bad guys seemed to spark something in me!  This meant that I had my fingers and toes crossed for a good outcome as I read through the many ups and downs they faced. Singer was a great addition to the already fantastic cast, I liked her personality and I loved what she brought to the storyline.

In the middle of all the danger was a moment of peace which indulged my romantic side, I really enjoyed this little break but was excited to get back to the action!  Something I had been looking forward to was their return to Faerie, I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen there.

As always the writing style was beautifully descriptive and enabled me to visualise each scene easily and clearly.  I particularly enjoyed the detailed battle scenes that played out in my mind like a movie.

A fabulous epilogue ended this series in a satisfying way.  It’s always sad to say goodbye to characters who I have taken to my heart but I felt that the author rounded everything up perfectly so I finished with a smile on my face.

This was another imaginative read that captivated me throughout, a wonderful finale!

My Review

Firstly I’d like to thank the author for sending me an e-copy of this book and Fiction Addiction Book Tours for allowing me to be part of this brilliant tour!

I really enjoyed The Star Child (you can read my review here) and as always I felt a little bit concerned that the second book might not live up to my expectations – clearly I shouldn’t have worried because somehow The Fallen Stars managed to exceed all my expectations, it was fantastic!

The prologue hinted at more trouble for Kellen and Calienta, I was excited to see where this would take them so I quickly moved on to the first chapter and it seemed that there was a wedding about to take place.  This was a lovely way to start the story but when it suddenly turned into a dangerous situation I knew that the adventure had begun!  In no time at all I fell back into the storyline aided by gentle reminders of what had happened previously.

This time the story was predominantly set in the real world with the young couple, and Kellen’s friend Gabe, on the run and afraid of what the future held.  With the second part of the prophecy hanging over their heads and magic weaving through their every move, they attempted to go into hiding.

There was lots of tension, firstly between Kellen and Gabe (something that intrigued me immensely) and also between Kellen and Calienta (but that was a different kind of tension altogether).  Their relationship was much more intense this time and so wonderfully written to be exciting yet complex – this author really knows how to write a good kissing scene so watch out for those!  The introduction of William complicated everything further and this was a twist that I particularly enjoyed.

Throughout the book the subject of trust was highlighted, Kellen and Calienta just didn’t know who to trust and I have to admit that I struggled with this too – I’m normally quite good at guessing who the bad guys are but I was stumped.

Towards the end I was pleased to discover lots of interesting new facts about Kellen, some of which were rather surprising.  It led nicely to the ending which totally left me wanting more and hints at an amazing adventure in the next book – I can’t wait!!

This was a compelling and imaginative read that reeled me in and wouldn’t let go.  Another hit for Stephanie Keyes 🙂

Destined – Aprilynne Pike

“Laurel lived happily as an ordinary girl – until she discovered that she was a faerie.

Since then her heart has been divided between the magic realm of Avalon and the human world.  Between the boys she loves the most; caring David and wild Tamani. But now a powerful enemy threatens Avalon and unless the faerie world can win out, there may be no choices left…

Laurel faces the fight of her life to save everything and everyone she loves in this spell-binding faerie tale of magic and mystery, romance and danger.”

Being the last book in this series I had a feeling there would be plenty of action in it, but I never imagined it would start so early on in the story and continue pretty much throughout the whole book!  It felt like I was holding my breath the entire time because it was so tense and exciting.

There were some really sad moments and incredibly touching scenes that kept me completely enthralled by the events unfolding in front of me.  There was an interesting addition that came in the form of Excalibur which added yet another magical twist to the story.

At one point an awful misunderstanding threatened to destroy the prediction I had made about the ending, this was definitely one of the moments that had me holding my breath.

Towards the end of the book it became a race against time and I could almost feel the panic and fear rolling out of the pages at me.  Once things had come to an end I thought I had it all figured out but then came ‘The Last Word’ – an extra section at the end, kind of like an epilogue, that I hadn’t expected at all.

Although not everything ended how I had hoped, I still felt happy with the conclusion and I can happily say that I thoroughly enjoyed this series.  Each book had me on the edge of my seat and kept me turning page after page trying to find out what would happen next.  I’m actually going to miss Laurel, Chelsea, David, Tamani and all the other lovely characters in these books.

Fantastic, magical and addictive books that I would highly recommend.

Wild – Aprilynne Pike

“Laurel is a faerie, but one brought up as a human.  Since discovering her true identity she has been torn between two worlds – and between her faerie-guard, Tamani, and her human boyfriend, David.  Laurel thought she had chosen wisely, but now the walls that separate her worlds are crumbling and enemies are moving closer.  Who can Laurel trust?”

This series just gets better and better – after the last book I was left wondering what Tamani was up to, I was pleased to find out what it was (it wasn’t something I had expected either so it had a nice element of surprise to it).

To begin with I was still thoroughly intrigued by Klea, she was mysterious and I wasn’t sure if she could be trusted.  The arrival of Yuki also raised many questions and it wasn’t until the end of this book that we start to get an idea as to who they both are.

Chelsea still provided some funny moments and even Shar made me chuckle at his confusion over his iPhone.  The faerie guards were more integrated in the human world this time and I really enjoyed that part of it.

Laurel was more confident in this book than the other two and I enjoyed seeing this growth in her character.  For a while Tamani seemed to be losing some of his cocky charm that I liked so much but soon picked it up again towards the end, yay!  The animosity between him and David was also much stronger this time and when they finally came head to head I found it very exciting.

After reading this book I’m still ‘Team Tamani’, although I do like David and I think he is a great friend for Laurel to have, but I feel like it makes more sense for her to be with Tamani (probably something to do with the fact that they are both faeries).

This was another intense instalment that I read in less than a day, I found it so difficult to put this book down especially towards the end when they were slowly piecing the clues together.

Every one of these books have had a fantastic ending that left me wanting more, I already have the last book Destined so I can’t wait to get started on it to finally find out how this amazing series ends.

Spells – Aprilynne Pike

“A year ago Laurel discovered that she is a faerie, placed among humans when she was a baby.  Although she’s come to accept her true identity, Laurel refuses to turn her back on her human life – especially her boyfriend, David.

But the faerie realm is in grave danger and when Laurel is summoned, she must trust charismatic faerie-guard Tamani.  Laurel’s feelings for him are strong, and she is soon forced to make a choice that could break her heart…”

After reading Wings (review here) I couldn’t wait to get stuck into this book to find out what happened next for Laurel.  I just have to mention how much I love this cover – the picture above doesn’t really do it justice because in real life the whole cover shines, it is truly stunning!

Straight away I was absorbed back into the story, this time we learn so much more about Avalon, the different kinds of faeries and their social standings.  Everything is so imaginative and I really enjoyed learning about it all alongside Laurel.

We found out more about Tamani in this book because Laurel spent much more time with him, I loved these moments and as I go through this series I think I’m definitely leaning towards ‘Team Tamani’. Laurel’s time at the festival was great and had me hanging on every word I was reading.  The love triangle is certainly becoming more explosive, this was something I had hoped for and still hope for in the books to come.

The addition of Klea in this book was interesting, I felt very unsure about her and sense that there is much more to come from her including her reasons for doing what she does.

The book ended on a cliffhanger and left me desperately wanting to know what Tamani is up to!  I have now ordered the next two books in the series so I won’t have to wait much longer to find out.

A fantastic, addictive book that is joining the ever-growing one day read list!

Wings – Aprilynne Pike

“Laurel is an ordinary fifteen-year-old high school girl. But something incredible is happening to her. She is changing.

Now Laurel is about to discover that a deep and powerful magic holds the key to her destiny.”

I was initially attracted to this book by the gorgeous cover and once I had read what it was about I was completely intrigued and had to buy it.

I was hooked as soon as I started reading and I knew that this would end up as another one day read because I just couldn’t put it down! The clear way this book has been written meant that it was easy and comfortable to read, and the storyline was just fantastic – it was so imaginative and different and that is what kept me turning the pages until the end.

I liked the friendship between Laurel and David, it was always just on the edge of something more and even by the end you don’t fully know where things will go with them. They worked well as a team trying to figure out what Laurel was and what it all meant, this was fun to read especially as everything began to unfold and more details were revealed.

Laurel’s first meeting with Tamani was great, it was exciting and dangerous and signalled the moment that I had been anticipating most – Laurel discovering what she is. Tamani was very intriguing and Laurel was definitely attracted to him but wouldn’t admit it to anyone else. I think this will be the beginning of a fantastic love triangle, at the moment nothing is very clear-cut, she has feelings for them both but hasn’t really committed herself to anything so I believe she could still go either way. I look forward to seeing how this evolves in the next book.

As I was reading this book I could picture everything so vividly and I think it would make a great movie. The ending was beautiful, it was emotional and left me wanting so much more. Actually that would be the only negative thing I have to say about this book – it went too quickly and I just didn’t want it to end. I have already ordered the next book in the series Spells and I can’t wait for it to arrive so I can find out what’s next for Laurel.

This is a magical, different story – a real page turner.

Wings can be purchased here or from most good book retailers.
