Bad Brides by Rebecca Chance

“Good brides promise to obey. Bad brides wouldn’t dream of it…

Milly Gamble is an up-and-coming actress, and the perfect English flower child. At 23, she’s always been cast as the innocent heroine. But looks can deceive. Calculating and fiercely ambitious, Milly is determined to be the most famous star in England. And how better to achieve her goal than by dating Tarquin Ormond, lead singer of the biggest folk band of the moment? Tarquin is madly in love with Milly; Milly is only in love with herself.

Brianna Jade is an all-American pageant girl. The daughter of Tamra Maloney, a stunning billionairess, Brianna is a sweet, pretty girl who is more than happy to go along with her mother’s ambitious plans for her. Now Tamra’s brought her to the UK and hooked her up with an Earl. He has a crumbling stately home and needs a rich wife to help restore it to its former glory. Tamra is as ambitious and determined as Brianna is sweet and innocent – is this more a case of mother-in-law-zilla than bridezilla?

Both Milly and Brianna’s upcoming weddings will be huge, lavish events that garner national press. But with the cover of the biggest magazine in the country to be won, things are about to get very dirty…”

Firstly I’d like to thank ed pr for sending me this book to read and give an honest review.  I’ve enjoyed previous books by this author (reviews here) so I was looking forward to getting stuck in to this one.

The character introductions at the beginning of the book gave me a very clear impression of what their personalities were like. The two sets of couples and the people who surrounded them were all very interesting although for some reason I found myself more drawn to Brianna Jade and Edmund. I could tell early on that it was going to be an eventful read and boy was I right!

The appearance of characters from Rebecca’s previous books gave Bad Brides a familiar edge, I always enjoy catching up with old characters because it makes me feel like I’m meeting up with old friends. Out of all the new characters, it was Abel the pig farmer who piqued my interest the most. He was a quiet, mysterious type who I just wanted to know more about.

There was also a darker side to the storyline involving bribery, lies and manipulation. This was something that I particularly enjoyed because it surprised me, I gasped out loud in shock on quite a few of these darker occasions.

Certain twists towards the end hinted at the direction in which the storyline was headed and by the time I got to the last few chapters I had a fairly good idea how things were going to turn out.

As always with books from this author, there were some very steamy moments and scenes involving drug use so if this is likely to offend you then it probably isn’t a book for you.

Bad Brides is full of glamorous characters and naughtiness, a classic Rebecca Chance book!

The Naughty Girls Book Club by Sophie Hart

the naughty girls book clubA quaint suburb.  A quiet little book club.  A very naughty reading list.

When Estelle sets up a book group in order to increase custom to her struggling cafe, what follows is more life-changing than she could have ever imagined.

As the first meeting flounders, Estelle suggests a spot of erotica to spice things up.  Inspired by their naughty novels, this group of shy suburban readers shake off their inhibitions and discover that their own lives can be just as scandalous…”

I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book from Goodreads First Reads, I was keen to read it as I had heard lots of good things about it.

I quickly became caught up in Estelle’s life and in particular her little cafe which, thanks to the clear writing style, was so easy to visualise. I could almost feel Estelle’s nerves jumping off the page at me as the very first book club meeting took place, this meant that I couldn’t stop reading because I wanted to know exactly how it would go!

The author successfully held my attention with intriguing characters (I was interested in each of their lives) and a fun storyline. Seeing how each character was affected by reading ‘naughty’ books was highly entertaining for me and caused me to smile regularly whilst reading.  The real side of relationships was captured beautifully – I found myself nodding in understanding at some of the issues raised.

The growing friendships was another enjoyable part of the storyline, I could see the characters becoming closer and more relaxed with each other right before my eyes and as they settled into their friendships the ‘naughty’ chat increased!

In my opinion, examining the sometimes controversial subject of erotica (and the many variations of it) gave this book an interesting edge.  As a book blogger who will read pretty much anything I am fascinated by the good and bad reactions that this genre can create.

This was a fun, bubbly read – can erotica change your life?

Shannon’s Law by Emma Calin Including Giveaway!

shannons law

“Wild child inner city cop Shannon Aguerri walks a dangerous line between her methods and justice. When the bosses lose their nerve, after yet another maverick mission, she is transferred to green pastures to play out the role of a routine village cop. In Fleetworth-Green she encounters signs of people and drug trafficking and homes in on serious millionaire criminals.

As a loner she has attracted men but nothing has stuck. When she meets Spencer, the hunky and widowed Earl of Bloxington, there is an immediate rapport between them. Their social differences mean nothing to their passion and need. Already in the mix is an upper class female rival – who has long plotted her way into the Earl’s bed. The jealousy is an evil shade of green and the anger is a violent scarlet.

Often inhibited by a sense of duty and honour, Spencer is slow to reveal his feelings. When Shannon confronts him with the need to choose between her word and that of her rival, he does not immediately support her.

All the same, when they are forced together to carry out a desperate rescue mission, their love is stronger than everything ranged against them.”

Firstly I’d like to thank the author for sending me this eBook to read and give an honest review. Having previously enjoyed the first book in the Passion Patrol series (review here) I was keen to get reading.  Although this is part of a series I would just like to say that it also works very well as a standalone read.

The storyline jumped straight into the action and I found myself quickly hooked on Shannon’s straight-talking attitude.  She yearned for something exciting to happen in the quiet village of Fleetwood-Green so she could put her police skills to good use. She came across a group of teenagers in the woods and this led her to Earl Spencer who had an instant affect on Shannon.

Shannon was a brilliant character, she was very strong and feisty, some of her comments literally had me laughing out loud!  I was curious as to why she was transferred to the village from Brixton but it soon became clear.  Spencer was a mixed character – he had a nervous, sweet side but I also got the feeling of strength and power from him.  The supporting characters were as interesting as the main characters, I particularly liked Mel who made up a great comedy duo with Shannon.

The criminal side of things was really interesting for me, a gruesome discovery got me thinking up all sorts of things – I felt like a detective as I tried to solve the case alongside Shannon.  There were some very tense moments as she performed her duty as a police officer, a heart-pounding rescue mission was one of my favourite parts of the book.

Once again there were times when I found the authors writing style to be almost poetic, especially the romantic/steamy/sexual scenes.  Shannon’s sexual encounters were described in detail so please bear this in mind when you choose to read this book – it may not suit everyone’s tastes.

This was another enjoyable read from Emma Calin, romantic and sexy with a twist of police action!

Fixed on You by Laurelin Paige

fixed on you

“Stalking and restraining orders are a thing of Alayna Wither’s past. With her MBA newly in hand, she has her future figured out–move up at the nightclub she works at and stay away from any guy who might trigger her obsessive love disorder. A perfect plan.

But what Alayna didn’t figure on is Hudson Pierce, the new owner of the nightclub. He’s smart, rich, and gorgeous–the kind of guy Alayna knows to stay away from if she wants to keep her past tendencies in check. Except, Hudson’s fixed his sights on her. He wants her in his bed and makes no secret of it.

Avoiding him isn’t an option after he offers a business proposition she can’t turn down and she’s drawn further into his universe, unable to resist his gravitational pull. When she learns Hudson has a dark history of his own, she realizes too late that she’s fallen for the worst man she could possibly get involved with. Or maybe their less than ideal pasts give them an opportunity to heal each other and finally find the love their lives have been missing.”

I was lucky enough to win a copy of this eBook from the author’s release event giveaway.  I loved the sound of it and have been looking forward to reading it for quite a while.

Straight away I got a sense of fun from the book, the characters seemed young and vibrant as did the nightclub where Alayna worked. The first time she met Hudson the sexual tension crackled between them so strongly that I could almost feel the sparks flying off the page.  When it turned out that he had bought the nightclub I just knew that his presence would throw her life into chaos.

Hudson was smooth, confident and totally sexy – such an easy character to fall for.  I have to admit that I was surprised by his proposition to Alayna, it wasn’t at all what I had been expecting and seeing as both of them were so fiery I couldn’t wait to see where the agreement would take them.

Hints of trouble from both of their pasts intrigued me, I was particularly fascinated by Alayna’s addiction which was something I hadn’t heard of before but could sort of understand how it would happen. Changes in their relationship throughout the storyline kept me interested, there were many ups and downs creating a rollercoaster feeling within me.

I would have liked to read from Hudson’s point of view at least once or twice during the book because I was desperate to know what he was thinking!  I enjoyed the ending but I definitely have unanswered questions which I hope will be answered in the next book Found in You.  I can’t wait to read more from these characters.

This was an intoxicating, steamy page-turner that left me wanting more.

The Golden Locket by Primula Bond

The golden locket
The Golden Locket by Primula Bond: Book Two in the Unbreakable Trilogy

ebook; published 21st November

7.99 – paperback; Published 19th December

“Ensconced in their Manhattan penthouse, all seems blissfully happy for Gustav and Serena. Still in the first flush of love, they have every satisfaction they could need.

But as they enjoy their New York pleasure ground, ghosts start to emerge from Gustav’s past, and when his damaged younger brother, Pierre, comes back into his life, he brings with him a dangerous threat. With temptation waiting at every turn, can Gustav and Serena survive all the excitement that the Big Apple holds?”

Firstly I’d like to thank the publishers for sending me this eBook to read and give an honest review.  The Golden Locket is the second book in the Unbreakable Trilogy by Primula Bond who I interviewed on Me, My Books and I (interview here).  My review of the first book The Silver Chain can be found here.

I quickly fell back into the addictive storyline, it seemed that life had been very good to Serena since I left her at the end of book one.  There was just one lingering question in my mind over what had happened in that cliffhanger ending and I couldn’t wait to find out where it would lead!

The complicated relationship between Gustav and his brother Pierre was beautifully written, I could almost feel the tension between them rolling off the pages at me.  This side of the storyline captivated me throughout, I was fascinated by details of the events that caused so much trouble between them.

Serena continued on her journey of discovery, taking paths that I never imagined she would take.  I was surprised by her experimentation but even more surprised by Gustav’s acceptance of it, this had me flying through the pages because I just had to know what would happen next!  She had a tendency to keep secrets from Gustav and on more than one occasion I found myself yelling ‘just tell him!’ at my Kindle.

Once again the atmospheric writing created a magical feeling and another fabulous cliffhanger ending left me wanting more.

Warning:  The Golden Locket contained strong language and sexual scenes so if you are likely to be offended by this then it probably isn’t a book for you.

This was an addictive read that had me hooked into the early hours of the morning.

The Pleasures of Autumn by Evie Hunter

“When museum curator Sinead O’Sullivan is charged with stealing the Fire of Autumn, a dazzling ruby with a history of violence and treachery, bail is set at one million Swiss francs. Investigator Niall Moore is hired to stop her fleeing and to find the jewel.

Their sexual chemistry is electric but logic says to ignore it. Desperate as she is to convince Niall of her innocence, Sinead cannot reveal everything she knows. And the feisty red-head’s improbable tale tells him that she is not to be trusted.

Yet it’s impossible to ignore the carnal heat between them. Niall, an expert interrogator, uses every trick of the trade – and every weapon in his erotic armoury – to get at the truth. Sinead, a fast learner, counters his every move with one of her own. Thief and thief-taker fight for dominance and there can be only one winner.

But what happens in their red-hot game of cat-and-mouse when criminals chasing the precious jewel come after Sinead … and the stakes become deadly?”

Firstly I’d like to thank the publisher for sending me this book to read and give an honest review.  I am a big fan of The Pleasures series so I couldn’t wait to get started on this one!  You can read my reviews of the previous books here.

The prologue gave me a clear insight into Sinead’s character, I felt as though I knew her well after just a few pages.  Niall had appeared in The Pleasures of Summer so I was looking forward to finding out more about him.  To begin with I was surprised by how quickly things happened between them but I soon discovered that it wasn’t going to be all smooth sailing and what followed had me on the edge of my seat.  Sinead’s secret was an interesting one and I couldn’t wait to see what reaction she would get when she revealed all.

The whole criminal cat and mouse chase completely reeled me in, I felt that there was the perfect mix of dangerous and sexual scenes – there certainly wasn’t time to get bored with the non-stop action involved in this book!

I loved the strong connection between the characters, this made them feel real and likeable to me.  I was left with a few questions about a couple of the characters so I’m hoping they might feature in the next book.  The lovely epilogue finished the book with a rather romantic conclusion which I really enjoyed.

These authors have once again managed to inject a special brand of magic into their writing which captivates me as a reader entirely.

This was a sizzling, exciting read that held my attention throughout.

Evie Hunter is actually two authors, Caroline McCall and Eileen Gormley, who met at a creative writing workshop in Dublin in 2010.

On discovering that they shared a passion for erotic fiction, they became the best of friends. In early 2012 they got a chance to co-write a series of erotic novellas for an American publisher. When they completed the second one without killing each other, they decided to take on something bigger.

Eventually, they emerged into daylight, clutching THE PLEASURES OF WINTER, saying ‘Never again’ … until the next time.

The Silver Chain – Primula Bond

The silver chain

“Bound by passion, she was powerless to resist.

One dark evening in London, photographer Serena Folkes is indulging her impulsive side with a night-time shoot. But someone is watching her – mysterious entrepreneur Gustav Levi. Serena doesn’t know it yet, but this handsome stranger will change her life forever…

Serena is fascinated by Gustav, the enigmatic owner of the Levi Gallery, and she soon feels an irresistible pull of attraction. The interest is mutual, and Gustav promises to launch Serena’s photographic career at his gallery, but only if Serena agrees to become his exclusive companion.

To mark their agreement, Gustav gives Serena a bracelet to wear at all times. Attached to it is a silver chain of which he is the keeper. With the chain Gustav controls Serena physically and symbolically – a sign that she is under his power.

As their passionate relationship intensifies, Gustav’s hold on the silver chain grows stronger. But will Gustav’s dark past tear them apart?”

Firstly I’d like to thank the publishers for sending me this eBook to read and give an honest review.  The Silver Chain is the first in the Unbreakable Trilogy by Primula Bond who I recently interviewed on Me, My Books and I (interview here).

The first few pages indicated that Serena was boarding a train to run away from something or someone, this raised all sorts of questions in my mind which were mostly answered in the following pages.  She was attempting to chase her dreams of being a photographer and I really admired her for it.

A meeting on a dark Halloween night was eerie but exciting, I wanted to know more about the intriguing stranger and it was pretty clear that Serena did too.  I have to admit that I was surprised by how quickly everything progressed after this but it certainly managed to capture my interest with its fast pace so I suppose it wasn’t a bad thing!

For me it got really interesting when the agreement was being discussed (this is the part that fascinates me the most with books of this genre), I was keen to see Serena’s reaction to Gustav’s demands and enjoyed this crucial scene very much.  I also enjoyed the photography side of the story because I felt that it put a different spin on things.

I liked Serena most of the time, she had a difficult upbringing which was gradually revealed throughout the book.  Something I particularly enjoyed about her was her wandering mind – she often drifted off into fantasies even in the most inappropriate of places!  My opinion of Gustav also varied, I couldn’t quite figure him out but I was keen to uncover his secrets because he really intrigued me.

The author has a very atmospheric style of writing and, although it took a little getting used to, I thought it created an almost magical feeling.  The author also knows how to write a fabulously teasing cliffhanger – I absolutely couldn’t have predicted the twist at the end and now I’m left desperately wondering what happens next!

Warning:  The Silver Chain contained strong language and sexual scenes so if you are likely to be offended by this then it probably isn’t a book for you.

This was a sexy, intriguing book with a wonderful atmosphere.  I look forward to reading more from this author.
