Quick Book Reviews

You may have already seen that I’ve been posting quick book reviews over on my family blog (V Family Fun). Well, I’ve now decided that they would be a better fit here on Me, My Books and I so I’m moving them over and any future quick reviews will be posted here.

These quick reviews are always for books that I’ve purchased myself and they include a star rating and a line or two covering my overall thoughts of the book in question.

Here are all the quick reviews I’ve posted so far:

Firewalker was a breathtaking mix of suspense, unexpected twists and romance. The cliffhanger ending left me wanting more and I can’t wait to read the next book.

This quick review is a little bit different because it’s for a whole series (or the whole series as published so far).
I got the first book, Becoming Alpha, when it was available as a free download on Amazon and enjoyed it so much that I couldn’t resist moving onto the next book in the series. It didn’t stop there – as each book ended I found myself wanting more and, seeing as there were 5 books already published, I gradually made my way through every available eBook!
Book 6 isn’t due to be released until May 2016 so unfortunately I’m forced to wait to find out what happens next (waiting for book releases is pretty much the bane of a bookaholics life).
So in the meantime, here is my overall opinion of the series so far:
Alpha Girl Series
The Alpha Girl series is exciting, magical and dangerous with a thread of romance running through it. A supernatural roller-coaster!
An easy 5 stars from me.

What a Boy Wants – Nyrae Dawn

“Courtesy of watching his mom’s relationships, Sebastian Hawkins knows what girls need to do to get a guy. He has what he considers a PHD in hooking up. When he needs extra cash for a car, Sebastian starts an online venture as The Hook-up Doctor, to anonymously help girls land the guy of their dreams. Of course, his services don’t offer a happily-ever-after guarantee. He’s seen firsthand getting together never means staying together.

And then he falls in love…  With the last girl he would expect…  Totally not in his game plan.

Suddenly, Sebastian finds himself muddled in the game he’s always prided himself on. He can’t even pick up girls at parties anymore! Why would anyone want to be in love when it turns you into a stuttering, screwed-up, mess with really lame stalker tendencies? Stalking? Totally not his gig.

But the Hook-up Doctor won’t let himself go down easily. He’s always known how to give a girl what she wants and now it’s time to figure out what a boy wants… and he definitely plans on getting it.”

I bought this for my Kindle after reading a review on The Sweet Bookshelf, it sounded like my kind of read and it was such a bargain price on Amazon that I couldn’t resist buying it.

Wow!  I literally read this book in just a few hours, I was so addicted to it.  It was refreshing to read a book from the guys point of view, although I would definitely be interested in reading this same story from the girl’s point of view too.  The idea for the story reminded me of a younger version of Will Smith’s Hitch, where he tries to help people date someone using his vast experience but when it came to his own love life, it didn’t run so smoothly.

I thought I had it all figured out early on in the book but it turns out I was very wrong, I think it was written like this to deliberately throw the reader off the scent and it clearly worked with me!

There were some funny moments during the story, for example, an incident involving an angry father with a baseball bat made me laugh out loud as I pictured the scene.  The whole book had a young, fresh feel to it and this made it incredibly easy for me to read.

I really loved everything about Sebastian even his cockiness, I found his jealousy amusing and as the story progressed, and he realised what his feelings meant, I loved watching the change in him.

This is a fabulously addictive tale of first love that I just couldn’t stop reading.
