Duplicity – Nikki Jefford

Duplicity

“If Graylee Perez thought sharing a body with her twin sister was bad, dealing with a duplicate of herself is two times worse. Gray the second doesn’t seem to get that Lee’s boyfriend, Raj, is off limits. Then there’s the problem of Adrian. He expects one of the Graylees to be his.

Nearly a year later, the council is on to them for past misdeeds; Lee, along with the rest of the coven, has lost control of her powers; and Gray is being stalked by what looks like the Grim Reaper.

If the two Grays work together, they may stand a chance of setting things right and making it out alive.”

I was lucky enough to win this eBook from a giveaway on the author’s blog.  I had already read and enjoyed the first book Entangled (review here) so I couldn’t wait to carry on with the story.  It had been quite a while since I read the first book but the beginning of this one quickly refreshed my memory.

Something strange was happening to the witches and warlocks’ powers, each of them were affected in a different way and my favourite had to be what happened to Raj – it was definitely something that could prove to be quite problematic!

The whole double Graylee thing was a great twist to the storyline, I loved the way the author separated her name so it was easy to keep track of which girl was which.  I admit that I felt torn between the two of them, I just couldn’t decide which Graylee I favoured especially where Raj was concerned.  I did enjoy the tension that sparked whenever they were around each other though and this was something that kept me glued to my Kindle.

The author’s captivating writing style really brought the characters to life and enabled me to visualise everything clearly in my mind.  I thought Adrian was much more intriguing this time, I found myself hoping that he would get together with Gray and I think a part of me still has my fingers crossed for something along those lines in the next book!

Revenge was a big part of the book and there was one payback scene involving Gray, Adrian and Nolan (from book one) that I particularly enjoyed.  This all led to a surprising turn of events that makes me excited for the next book which I have added to my ever-growing wish list!

This was another great read from the Spellbound Trilogy, filled with more danger, more kissing and even more magic.

Entangled

“Two months after dying, seventeen-year-old witch Graylee Perez wakes up in her twin sister Charlene’s body. Until Gray finds a way back inside her own body, she’s stuck being Charlene every twenty-hour hours. Her sister has left precise instructions on how Gray should dress and behave. Looking like a prep isn’t half as bad as hanging out with Charlene’s snotty friends and gropey boyfriend.

The “normals” of McKinley High might be quick to write her behavior off as post-traumatic stress, but warlock Raj McKenna is the only person who suspects Gray has returned from the dead.

Now Gray has to solve the mystery of her death while working out a way to disentangle herself from Charlene’s body before she disappears for good.”

My review of Entangled can be found here and the eBook can be purchased from Amazon for just 76p!

Aurora Sky Vampire Hunter

“If there is one thing eighteen-year-old Aurora Sky wants, it’s to get off the iceberg she calls home. Being kissed before she graduates wouldn’t hurt either.

Then a near-fatal car wreck changes everything. Government agents step in and save Aurora’s life in exchange for her services as a vampire hunter. In Alaska. Basically she’s a glorified chew toy. All thanks to her rare blood type, which sends a vampire into temporary paralysis before she has to finish the job…by hand.

Now Aurora’s only friends are groupies of the undead and the only boy she can think about may very well be a vampire. And if he’s a vampire, will she be forced to kill him?”

Firstly I’d like to thank the author for sending me an ARC to read and give an honest review.  This is the first book in her new series and after really enjoying Entangled (review here) by the same author, I couldn’t wait to get reading!  It has been labelled as being suitable for ages 18+ and I’m assuming this is because it’s quite a sexually charged story, particularly during the first half of the story.

The blurb indicated that this vampire story had a very different twist to others that I’ve read, I loved the idea that human blood could be a weapon against vampires.

It began with a brief introduction into Aurora’s school life, it didn’t seem like she was very happy and she continuously dreamt of going to college.  It wasn’t long before the action started with a car accident that was set to change Aurora forever, it was at this point that her life began to spiral out of control.  The moment she wrote her New Years resolutions I just knew she was going to go a little wild!

Aurora’s vampire hunter initiation was intense and really got my heart pounding, it seemed to change her – she became harder and more outspoken.  There were a few moments of laughter for me especially when Aurora got drunk for the first time and experienced her first kiss.

All of the characters were interesting, there were lots of hot males involved (they’re kind of essential in vampire books I think) and my favourite of these were Fane and Dante – Fane was dark and sexy, Dante was cute and cheeky, I look forward to seeing more of them in the future.

There was a mysterious and dangerous feeling to the story, the writing style was good and flowed easily which meant that I was turning page after page to find out what would happen next.  I didn’t want the book to end so when it did (after just a few hours I might add) I was very disappointed, I can’t wait to see where the story takes me in the next instalment.

This was a fantastic read with the perfect mix of vampires, teenage angst, sex and danger.

Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter can be purchase from Amazon UK (for just 77p!) or Amazon US.

I got this eBook when it was available as a free download from Amazon (current price £1.94), I absolutely love the cover – it has such a magical yet eerie feel to it!

The story got off to a dramatic start but it took me a little while to feel like I really knew the characters, I was a bit confused as to what was going on at this point.  However, I was soon caught up in this magical world the author had so beautifully created.

Identical twins Graylee and Charlene were witches, they had very different personalities and didn’t seem to get on well at all.  There were also warlocks, Raj, Nolan and Ryan to name just a few.  There were many rules and regulations that the coven were supposed to follow but, as always, rules are made to be broken and that is just what these young witches and warlocks did.

Charlene turned out to be more than just a nasty twin with a grudge against her sister, she really did seem to have an evil streak.  When Graylee woke up to find people calling her Charlene, she couldn’t figure it out.  There was a moment when she read a newspaper clipping that she had discovered hidden away in her house, this gave me chills and was a real turning point in the story.  It became much more intense, interesting and sinister as Graylee tried to piece everything together.  Obviously sharing a body with her twin sister had its complications but I enjoyed seeing how they coped with it, one of my favourite parts were the written instructions and notes that they left for each other.

There were some funny moments including one where Graylee attempted to speak French without much success, and there were also a couple of heated romantic scenes, these moments lightened the book and made it the complete package for me – I simply loved this different take on the witch story, it was just such an intriguing idea!

A fantastic one day read with an ending that left me wanting more – I’m definitely adding the next book Duplicity to my wish list.
