Struck – Jennifer Bosworth

“LA has been devastated by a massive earthquake.  Mia Price has a connection to the storm that caused the earthquake but doesn’t know why.  Two warring cults rise to power and both claim to have the answers that Mia is seeking.  The alluring Jeremy warns her away from them, but what is he hiding?

Soon, Mia discovers that she is part of a devastating power, one that could save … or destroy the world.”

I was lucky enough to win this book from a giveaway run by Bliss Magazine.

I had already seen the fantastic trailer so I expected great things from it.  Take a look at the trailer for yourself, it’s definitely one of the best I’ve seen and I can easily imagine it becoming a movie!

Wow, so after that I couldn’t wait to get started.  The prologue was really interesting and I quickly felt involved with the story, although I couldn’t really understand why Mia liked being struck by lightning. The rest of the book was set over the course of four days, counting down the days until the storm, I really liked this because it kept me on the edge of my seat and had my pulse racing as storm day came nearer.

Mia was a nice character who was strong but sensitive in equal amounts, there were some real heart-wrenching moments for her and her family throughout the book.  Mia struggled to figure out who she could trust and I enjoyed trying to figure it out right alongside her.  The mysterious Jeremy was very intriguing, I did make a prediction about halfway through as to who he really was and it turned out I was right (I believe I’ve mentioned before that I like to be right)!

This book had a lot of talk about religion and God, now I’m aware that it was a big part of the story and therefore necessary to be included, but it was not something I felt particularly comfortable about.

Towards the end everything got really intense and exciting and a few unexpected things happened which kept me turning page after page until I had finished.

A great storyline and an amazing trailer, this is one not be missed.
