“All Airel ever wanted was to be normal, to disappear into the crowd. But bloodlines can produce surprises, like an incredible ability to heal.
Then there’s Michael Alexander, the new guy in school, who is impossibly gorgeous…and captivated by her. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she can hear the sound of pages turning, and another, older story being written. It is the story of an ancient family, of great warriors, of the Sword of Light, and the struggle against an evil so terrible, so far-reaching, that it threatens everything.
Airel knew change would be an inevitable part of life. But can she hold on when murder and darkness begin to close in and take away everything she loves? Will she have what it takes when the truth is finally revealed?”
I got this eBook when it was available as a free download from Amazon, I had heard good things about it, loved the cover and wanted to find out for myself what it was like.
I’m sorry to say that I was disappointed, although there were some parts that I enjoyed there just wasn’t enough of them and on the whole I found it really difficult to stay interested. Normally when I’m reading nothing can distract me from the book but with this I was very easily distracted and didn’t feel the urgent need to carry on to find out what happens next.
I did like the idea for the story and some of the parts I enjoyed were: Airel’s reaction when she first saw Michael, the cinema scene that got my heart pounding and raised lots of questions, and the final battle where everything seemed to happen so quickly.
This book jumps back and forth from the present day to 1250 B.C. and while this history was vital to the rest of the story I think this was one of the problems for me, I found myself rushing through the 1250 B.C. parts because it just didn’t interest me, there was too much of it.
Towards the end of the book there were a few unexpected twists which piqued my interest for a while and I felt that the characters were finally who they should be, they seemed to be much more confident in themselves.
This is a dark story with some surprising twists that I’m sure plenty of people would really enjoy with its battles and history, unfortunately it just wasn’t for me.
