Die For Her – Amy Plum

Die for her

“Jules Marchenoir is a revenant—an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save human lives.

He’s spent the better part of the last century flirting his way through Paris, but when he met Kate Mercier, the heroine from Amy Plum’s Die for Me trilogy, he knew his afterlife had changed forever and he had found the love of his life. Until Kate fell for his best friend, Vincent.

Now Jules is faced with an impossible decision: choosing between his loyal friend and a love truly worth dying for.”

First of all I’d just like to mention the gorgeous cover and how the colours fit so perfectly with my blog :), I’d also like to say that I am so relieved to finally get the answers I have been waiting for because if you’ve read my reviews of Die For Me and Until I Die you’ll know just how intrigued I was about Jules’ feelings for Kate!

It was so easy for me to fall into the storyline, I loved going back to the beginning and reading it from a different viewpoint.  Reading about Jules’ true feelings and the clever (or not so clever depending on how you look at it) way he hid them was just what I had been waiting for.  I felt sad for him but there was a part of me that felt excited about the future – I’m pretty sure all will be revealed at some point and I can’t wait for it to happen!

I also learned more about Vincent’s obsession with Kate and the depth of his feelings for her, this was something that hadn’t been explored in quite so much detail in the previous books so I enjoyed that part too!

The storyline went slightly further than Until I Die and gave me a little bit more of an insight into what happened at the end – I still can’t quite believe what did happen though and this brought it all flooding back (arrgghhh I can’t wait for the final instalment in the trilogy!!).

This was a fantastic read that I finished in just a couple of hours, if you enjoyed the first two books you are going to LOVE this novella!

(Please excuse all the exclamation marks in this review – I confess that I was extremely excited about the book!! :))

Die For Her is available to buy now from Amazon UK and Amazon US.

Until I Die – Amy Plum

“Kate has chosen to leave the comfort and safety of her human life in order to join Vincent in the dangerous supernatural world he inhabits.  For his part, he has sworn to go against his very nature and resist the repeated deaths that are his fate as a revenant – even though it will bring him immeasurable suffering.

Desperate to help him, Kate’s search for answers takes her from the glamorous streets of Paris to the city’s squalid underbelly.  But when she stumbles across a secret that could help to overthrow their enemies forever, Kate unwittingly puts everyone she loves at risk.  And puts herself in the midst of an ancient and deadly war, not as a bystander … but as a target.”

After reading Die For Me (review here) I was really looking forward to the second book and I was lucky enough to win copies of both books from a giveaway on Serendipity Reviews.

As soon as I began reading it felt like I hadn’t even had a break between the two books, it was so familiar and everything that had happened in the first book came rushing back to my memory.  This time there were two new characters, Violette and Arthur, and throughout the book I couldn’t decide if I liked them or not, there just seemed something not quite right about them.

There was lots more information about revenant history and prophecies which I found really interesting, I love how imaginative this whole story is!  There were also more fantastic fight scenes that added danger and got my heart beating faster.

If you read my review of Die For Me you’ll know that I loved Jules’s flirting and happily for me this book had lots more of that.  This time however, I got the feeling that there was more to it than just a harmless flirt, I may be wrong but I think his feelings for Kate are a lot stronger than I first thought.  Again I look forward to seeing how that pans out in the next book.

I read this in less than a day because I was so caught up in the story.  An intriguing stake-out and a surprising twist near the end had me turning page after page to find out the answers to my questions.

Now I have to mention the cliffhanger ending, although I find it really hard to put into words how it made me feel, I was completely shocked by it and the tears that were running down my face showed just how involved with this book I had become!  I have a feeling that this will play on my mind until the next book is released and I can finally find out what happens.

Another fantastic, addictive book from Amy Plum that captured my imagination completely.

Until I Die can be purchased here or from most good book retailers.

This book was amazing, it really didn’t take many hours to finish because it was just so difficult to put down!  So my husband was ignored and the housework was forgotten because I was Kate and I was in Paris with the revenants (being a Kate myself certainly helped with that idea!).

In the story Kate, along with her sister Georgia, has moved to Paris from America to live with her grandparents after her parents were killed in an accident.  Kate is a quiet girl who spends a lot of time alone reading and is still coming to terms with the loss of her parents.  Georgia, however, deals with things in a different way – she is outgoing and has a great social life.  It is Georgia who suggests that Kate should leave the house to do her reading so that she might actually meet people, when Kate takes her advice and meets the handsome Vincent she has no idea how much her life is about to change.

I absolutely loved the revenant/immortal idea, it was so different to other books I’ve read and it made a refreshing change to the vampire and werewolf stories I read a lot of.

The romance between Kate and Vincent was enchanting and exciting, you can really feel their connection as you read through the book.  There is also something that I can’t quite put my finger on about Jules (one of Vincent’s fellow revenants) – he flirts with Kate a lot and I have a hopeful feeling that something more might be revealed in the books to come.  I really liked all the characters in this story, except the bad guys of course, and I look forward to finding out more about them as the trilogy continues.

Speaking of bad guys, the ones in this book are seriously dark and sly.  I particularly enjoyed reading the action scenes in this story, I could picture them so vividly and it’s a good job I can handle a bit of blood and gore as there is plenty of that involved.

This is a fantastic book that had me gripped from the first to the last word, I eagerly await the release of the next book Until I die due to be released on 3rd May 2012.
