Echo – Alyson Noël

“Daire Santos has saved her grandmother’s life – and her soul.  But the cost has been great: the Richter family is now loose in the Lowerworld.  Daire and her boyfriend Dace must find the Richters before the balance between good and evil is destroyed.

As their relationship deepens, Dace’s evil brother Cade grows stronger, building his power and forcing Daire and Dace to confront the horrifying prophecy that has brought them all together.  It will force Daire to claim her true identity as Seeker – but first she must make an unthinkable sacrifice.”

This is the second book in The Soul Seekers series and I had been eagerly awaiting its release after thoroughly enjoying the first book Fated.  The cover is as beautiful as the first was and has a lovely Christmassy feel to it – with the storyline being set over the Christmas period this ties in perfectly.

This picked up where the previous book had left off and I was soon back in Enchantment with Daire and Dace as they faced their magical and dangerous mission.

The story is told from both Daire and Dace’s perspectives and this was an important factor for me because I was keen to know how Dace felt about everything that was going on.  The young couples relationship definitely progressed in this book even though the odds were stacked against them.  There was a particularly lovely scene involving a padlock and a chain link fence – it sounds awful but trust me when I say it was beautiful.

Daire was still learning about what it meant to be a Seeker, I have to admit that I found some of the spiritual parts a little hard to follow but watching her grow in confidence, and ultimately become something of a warrior, was fascinating!

This book saw the introduction of Phyre and straight away I had a feeling she would be trouble – I think she’ll play a much bigger part in the books to come.

The ending was completely unexpected and left me wanting so much more, unfortunately I now have to wait until July 2013 when the third book Mystic is due to be released.

This was another hit from Alyson Noël, a wonderfully magical page-turner that captivated me throughout.

Echo can be purchased from The Book DepositoryAmazon or from most good book retailers.
